1Individual Institutions: This filter comprises financial institutions and other authorized institutions to operate by the Central Bank of Brazil. Data are presented separately by legal entity (CNPJ), at the unconsolidated level. In this case, equity interests in Brazil and/or abroad and foreign branches are recognized as investments (equity method).
2Financial Conglomerates and Independent Institutions: This filter comprises financial conglomerates and individual institutions that are not part of financial conglomerates (independent institutions). A financial conglomerate is defined as a group of financial entities located in the country or abroad linked by a majority equity interest, either directly or not, by effective operational control or by partner rights that assure a predominance in corporate decisions. Financial institutions and other authorized institutions to operate by the Central Bank of Brazil that are part of a financial conglomerate are presented in a consolidated basis, as if they represent a single entity. Since 2018, data from independent institutions consider the entity’s operations in the country and its branches abroad.
3Prudential Conglomerates and Independent Institutions: This filter comprises prudential conglomerates and individual institutions that are not part of prudential conglomerates (independent institutions). Besides the institutions belonging to the financial conglomerate, prudential conglomerates include: (i) consortium administrators, (ii) payment institutions, (iii) companies that perform acquisition of credit operations, including real estate or credit rights, (iv) other legal entities domiciled in the country that have as an exclusive objective an equity interest in the aforementioned entities, (v) investment funds in which the entities that compose a prudential conglomerate take or retain substantial risks and benefits.
4Institutions with Foreign Exchange Operations: This filter comprises financial conglomerates and individual institutions that are not part of financial conglomerates, that operate in the foreign exchange market.
