Clarifications and Methodology

Accounting and capital information of the banking conglomerates and individual banking institutions, from 1994 to 1999, are available in the same format disclosed in the report “Top 50 Banks in Brazil”. The quarterly reports are available for the institutions in normal operation in those years, sorted by descending order of total assets less brokerage.

According to Law no. 4,595, of December 31, 1964, the financial institutions should report financial results on June 30 and December 31 of each year, mandatory, observing CMN’s accounting regulation. For instance, in March and September, revenues and expenses accounting data correspond to the first and third quarter accumulated data, respectively.
